1963 Roger Maris Single-Signed Baseball with Original Box

1963 Roger Maris Single-Signed Baseball with Original Box

This Official American League (Cronin) baseball was, according to the LOA that accompanies this lot, signed by Roger Maris in January of 1963 at his home in Missouri. According to the letter, written by Larry Newgaard in 1995, he met Maris during 1958 when Maris was playing for the Kansas City Athletics. The two became friends, and on the date in question in January, 1963, Newgaard took about a dozen baseballs over to Maris' house for Maris to sign. This is one of those baseballs, signed by Maris in blue ink on the sweet spot while he, his wife and Newgaard visited with one another. Without doubt the nicest vintage Maris ball we have handled, this baseball comes with its original box. The ball grades a solid 8, and the signature also receives a grade of 8. The LOA explaining the provenance of the baseball is a copy. This is certain to become the centerpiece of your New York Yankees collection.
