1964-1974 Muhammad Ali World Champion Ring

1964-1974 Muhammad Ali World Champion Ring

Cassius Clay was a heavy underdog when he met Sonny Liston for the heavyweight championship on February 25, 1964, at Miami Beach. But he won the fight when Liston failed to come out for the 8th round, claiming a shoulder injury. Jump ahead ten years to 1974 when Ali knocked Foreman out in the 8th round on October 30, at Kinshasa, Zaire, in the first heavyweight championship fight ever held in Africa. And in between, we witnessed the reign of a boxing legend. This stunning 10K masterpiece by Jostens celebrates this period in the career of Muhammad Ali. A large CZ sparkler sits at the tableau ringed by the words "World Champion" puncuated three times with the symbol of the faith of Islam, the crescent moon and star. One shank reads "Ali TKO Liston 6, 1964" with "Muhammad Ali" and "Ali KO Foreman 8, 1974" on the opposite side. As the story goes, Ali ordered a number of these rings back in 1974 to present to the closest members of his training staff and entourage. Size 11, marked inside the bank with the maker's hallmark and the karat stamping. In excellent condition.
