1964 Danny Murtaugh Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

Pittsburgh Pirates road jersey worn by manager Danny Murtaugh in 1964. The gray flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number 40 on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. A "MacGregor size 44" label appears in the collar. A second MacGregor label, reading "Set 1 1964," is located on the interior left front tail. The jersey is all original and displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including slight tears along the stitch lines on the reverse numerals. Murtaugh was one of the most successful managers in Pirates history, winning five pennants and two World Championships in his 15 years at the helm (1957-1976, non-consecutive years). His 1,115 lifetime wins in a Pirates uniform is second in franchise history to only Fred Clarke's 1,422. In 1977, a year after his untimely death at the age of 59, he became one of only nine Pirates players/managers to have his number retired.
