1964 Jim Bunning Perfect Game Display

1964 Jim Bunning Perfect Game Display

Shea Stadium opened in 1964 and Jim Bunning left the Tigers to join the Phillies. What do those two happenings have to do with each other? Well, the Hall of Fame pitcher became the first and only pitcher in the history of that New York City ballpark to throw a perfect game, turning the trick during a doubleheader vs. the Mets on Father's Day that season. This framed display commemorating that historic baseball moment includes a beautiful ticket stub, 1960s "Go Phillies Go" Button of Bunning and a signed 8 x10 (10/10) with the stadium scoreboard telling the story in the background. The program has been dismantled by a fan who was at the game showing the program cover and the insert. The rest of the program is included. Measuring 35.5" x 32" in its frame, the entire display is in NRMT condition. Six years after retiring from the mound, Bunning began a political career that culminated in his serving 24 years in congress, retiring in 2010.
