1964 New York Mets Meritorious Service Award Ring

Rare meritorious service ring presented to New York Mets employees for the 1964 season. Women's ring is size 6 with raised Mets skyline baseball logo punctuated by two rubies and a real diamond. Right shank bears a relief of the newly-opened Shea Stadium, while the right has a relief of mascot Lady Met - now known as Mrs. Met. Her counterpart, Mr. Met, was used for men's versions of this same ring. Stamped inside 10k Balfour, comes in original display box. In only the third season of the expansion franchise's existence, perhaps it was the aforementioned opening of Shea that spurred this superb gift. It may have also been tied to the high expectations for New York's hosting of the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows. On the other hand, it may have been a peace offering to dedicated employees who weathered a total of 231 losses in the Mets first two seasons. Whatever the reason, this is a beautiful specimen from the early days of the Amazin's.
