1965 Bruce Lee Signed (3 times) Contract

1965 Bruce Lee Signed (3 times) Contract

Bruce Lee was the opposite of an imposing looking figure, yet basketball legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar once called him “the greatest athlete he had ever seen”. He came to America in 1959 and eventually, against the stereotype of the day of the Asian man as meek house servant, served notice that those days were officially over. His impact on film is impossible to exaggerate because he alone spawned the genre of martial arts films here. His impact was even greater on adults and children taking up karate, judo and scores of other disciplines in the 1970’s and ever since. His film career began as an infant in 1941 in a film called Golden Gate Girl. Certainly no one on the set had the faintest idea that a future legend was among them. Before he started his film career, he had a major role on The Green Hornet television show that premiered in 1966 on ABC. Britt Reid played the daring young owner/publisher of The Daily Sentinel, who fought crime as The Green Hornet. Assisting Reid in his crusade were his secretary, Lenore Case, and his faithful valet, Kato (Bruce Lee), who is a kung fu expert and who drives the sleek “Black Beauty,” the Hornet’s well armed car. We offer here the original agreement between Twentieth Century Fox Television, Inc., Greenway Productions, Inc. and Bruce Lee in regards to his being in The Green Hornet. The contract is 39 pages in length inside a red folder (8-7/8 X 11-1/2”) and held together by two brads. It is in outstanding condition and carries three separate Bruce Lee signatures! One of these signatures is on a piece of paper stapled to the inside front cover. It is a letter from a fellow at Greenway Productions, Inc. to Lee that served as an addendum to the contract. Lee tells us in Enter the Dragon, “Never take your eyes off your opponent... even when you bow.” You may be unable to take your eyes off this very unique and special prize.
