New York Jets coach Weeb Ewbank watches his rookie QB Joe Namath after Namath had signed, a then record, $400,000 signing bonus. Ironic note from the wire copy is a reference to a recent knee surgery. So just like Mantle before him, Namath’s career would be significantly hindered by his chronically injured knees.
