1966-1967 Andy Russell Pittsburgh Steelers Game Worn Jersey - Rare "Batman" Style
Distinctive "Batman-style" Pittsburgh Steelers home jersey worn by star linebacker Andy Russell. This is a rare Pittsburgh Steelers jersey because the style was used by the club only during the 1966 and 1967 seasons. So nicknamed for its resemblance to the Batman costume worn by Adam West on the then popular "Batman" television show, the jersey was not popular with players or fans, which led to its short two-year existence. The black dureen jersey, with gold shoulders, features the number "34" in white tackle twill on the front, reverse, and each sleeve. Located on the interior front tail are a "Rawlings size 52" label, a "Pittsburgh Sport Shop" label, and a partially detached laundry tag. The crotch strap has been removed (common), otherwise the jersey is all original. Extensive wear is displayed throughout, including numerous team repairs to both large and small tears on the front, reverse, shoulders, and sleeves. Light scattered staining is also evident. The amount of use is not surprising given the fact that Russell played in all 14 games in both 1966 and 1967, and was one of the team's top defenders. A 7-time Pro Bowl player, Russell was a key member of the Steelers' vaunted "Steel Curtain Defense" and helped lead the team to victories in Super Bowls XI and X. In 1971 he was named the Steelers MVP and today is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Hall of Honor. In 2007 Russell was also named to the Steeler's All-Time Team. An exceptional and scarce Steelers "style" jersey made all the more significant by having been worn by one of the team's top players.
