1966 Dean Chance California Angels Game Worn Jersey

1966 Dean Chance California Angels Game Worn Jersey

Dean Chance was a right-handed starter who pitched for the Los Angeles/California Angels from 1961-1966. Presented is a 1966 Dean Chance California Angels' game worn jersey, worn during Chance's final season with the Angels. In Chance's rookie season of 1962, he won 14 games and also garnered some fame when he and fellow pitcher Bo Belinsky made news by socializing with various Hollywood movie actresses, a situation that pleased them but left manager Bill Rigney wishing his young pitchers would get more sleep and not miss curfews. Chance had a terrific season in 1964 when he won the Cy Young Award (when it was awarded to only one pitcher in all of baseball, regardless of league) with a 20-9 record, leading the league in wins and ERA (1.65). In the 1966 season, Chance went 12-17, but he pitched much better than his record would indicate because his ERA was only 3.08. Chance spent 1967-69 with the Minnesota Twins, 1970 with both the Cleveland Indians and the New York Mets, and 1971, his final season, with the Detroit Tigers. In his Major League career, Chance was 128-115 with an outstanding 2.92 ERA. The home jersey has "Chance" embroidered in green thread on a tag in the collar. "ANGELS" is in red lettering with black trim across the chest. The lower left front outside tail has a Rawlings manufacturing tag that shows the size as "44." This same area also has a tag giving washing instructions, a tag that shows "SET 1 1966," and "Chance 44 66" embroidered in green thread. The back shows "31" in red numerals with black trim. The jersey has seven silver colored buttons down the front. The jersey has some loose threads and some pilling. There are three very small stains on the mid-left back, and a tiny stain midway down the button line. Except for the aforementioned minor imperfections, the jersey is in excellent condition and represents Dean Chance, one of the earliest stars of the Angels' franchise.
