1966 Emile Griffith Fight-Worn Robe vs. Dick Tiger
On April 25, 1966 at Madison Square Garden in New York, World Middleweight Champion Dick Tiger took on Emile Griffith in the main event. Griffith had relinquished his World Welterweight Title earlier that month to challenge for Tiger's belt. Griffith prevailed, winning a unanimous, 15-round decision and the title. Here is a boxing robe of Emile Griffith's which purports to be his fight-worn robe from this fight. It is red velour with white trim and includes the sash. There's a manufacturer's label for TUF-WEAR in the collar and the name EMILE stitched in script at the front left breast. Shows some minor wear and soiling. Comes with a handwritten letter of authenticity from sports writer Bill Verrigan of The Ring describing how he was given the robe by Griffith in the locker room after the fight.
