1966 "Glory Road" NCAA Basketball Championship Ticket, Program, Press Badges, and More
Most complete collection of items that we have seen from the 1966 NCAA Men's Basketball Champions from Texas Western College, known for having the first all-black starting lineup and popularized in the 2006 movie, Glory Road. Total of six items in all, with all materials belonging to Washington Post sportswriter George Minot. 1-3) Trio of pinback press credentials, all measuring 3" in diameter. One is gold colored with an insert for the writer's name dating from the 1965 NCAA Tourney. Another is similar style in white dating to the '66 East Regional Finals on March 11-12. The third does not have a name, is silver with blue lettering and is from the tournament finals on March 18-19, 1966. All in EX-NM condition. 4) Ticket stub from the March 19 championship game, in which Texas Western (now known as the University of Texas El Paso) outlasted the Kentucky Wildcats by a 72-65 final. Has minor foxing, VG condition. 5) Unscored game program from the Final Four, with centerfold scorecards including Duke and Utah as well as the eventual finalists. Well preserved, EX-NM condition. 6) Media packet features a folder from the weekend semi-finals, jammed with info within including team notes, boxscores, and copious notes apparently taken by Minot. With a majority black roster - unheard of at an integrated college in that era - the Miners lost only their final regular-season game after winning 23 straight, sweeping all five opponents in that year's NCAA Championship.
