1966 John F. Kennedy Life-sized Commissioned Bronze by Antonio Salemme

1966 John F. Kennedy Life-sized Commissioned Bronze by Antonio Salemme

This bust is a masterful work by one of the 20th century's finest artists. Commissioned by the family, only 10 of these were created. This is numbered 3/10; one went to the family and one went to the library. A major work, it is perfectly life sized and a classic rendering of the fallen leader. The finger marks within the bronze fall like tears. The piece is signed "Antonio Salemme 3/10 1966." This is a pantheon piece and we have never handled anything quite like this before. Weighs 60 lbs on a solid black marble base. Antonio Salemme (1892-1995) was one of the 20th-Century's most outstanding artists. His portrait commission included those of Albert Einstein, Dwight Eisenhower, Ethel Waters and JFK. His work is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and he was Director of The Works Progress Administration in NYC, befriending up-and-coming artists Arshile Gorky and William De Kooning. He is perhaps most famous for his life-sized nude sculpture of Paul Robeson. A stunning piece.
