An unceremonious dismissal for the man who made 1961 unforgettable. Text of "Western Union Sending Blank" reads, "...Tried to call you. We have traded your contract to St. Louis. Publicity release 5 PM KC time. Ralph joins me in wishing you the very best for the future. In behalf of the Yankees I would like to thank you for your past service and accomplishments for the Club. Regards. Lee MacPhail." Also included is official (unsigned) copy of reassignment notification from MacPhail to Maris on Yankees letterhead. Both are NRMT.
