1966 Sandy Koufax LA Dodgers World Tour Kimono
A decade after touring Japan for the first time, team president Walter O'Malley jetted his Dodgers out to the Far East for another goodwill tour, albeit a shorter trip from Los Angeles than from New York City. This commemorative kimono was to have been worn by ace Sandy Koufax as his name is written in the collar in Japanese. Koufax - who had just pitched his final major league game - did not make the trip, so this kimono would have been brought home to him by a teammate. It has some light red bleeding to the dodgers logo on the reverse but is in EX-MT overall. Koufax won his third and final Cy Young Award in 1966, helping the team win another National League pennant. O’Malley and his organization flew to Japan to renew acquaintances with Japanese baseball officials and monitor the progress made by the host country more than two decades since the conclusion of World War II. The kimono comes with an LOA.
