1966 University of Kentucky vs. Texas Western Championship Game Official Score Sheet, Broadcasting Equipment and Advertising Sign
The times, they were a' changin' in 1966. In perhaps the most noteworthy game in NCAA Tournament history, Texas Western defeated perennial power Kentucky in the national championship game, making history as the first all-black team to defeat an all-white team in such an important game. The items offered here come directly from that game in College Park, Maryland, having belonged to Claude Sullivan, the the broadcaster for all Kentucky football and basketball games from 1946 to 1967. The scorecard is hand-written and scored by Sullivan during his broadcast. There's also a microphone with label, #1 and WINN radio sticker, Trimm Inc. headset and silver amplifier with a clock on top and WINN radio sticker (the station for which Sullivan worked). There's also a 21" x 11" promotional card for WVLK radio. Despite various obstacles, Texas Western (now UTEP) won that seminal game, 72-65, inspiring the 2006 film "Glory Road."
