1967 Cassius Clay Army Induction Pen & Ink by Ken Alexander
In 1967, Muhammad Ali refused conscription into the U.S. Army to fight in the Vietnam War, citing religious beliefs and his opposition to the war. Ali was arrested and found guilty of draft evasion and was stripped of his boxing title. He wouldn't fight again for four years. This 8x10" Pen & Ink image by artist Ken Alexander shows Ali being coached by his white cornerman (who is wearing a shirt that says "Muhammed Ali"). The coach says "I'd throw in this towel but you'll need it at the induction center", as an enormous scoreboard hangs in the background showing that "The Courts" have won each round of the fight over "Cassius Clay", a direct reference to Ali's arrest and sentencing. In EX+ condition.
