1968 AFL Championship Game and Super Bowl XII Program (Washington Edition)
<p>Presented is an intriguing pair of NFL/AFL Championship Game programs: 1) The official program for Super Bowl VII, for the NFL Championship for the 1972 season, held on Jan. 14, 1973. The game was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before 90,182 fans. The Miami Dolphins went into the game undefeated and beat the Washington Redskins 14-7 to win Super Bowl VII and have a perfect 17-0 record (including playoffs) for the season. Miami future Pro Football Hall of Famers that season: Don Shula (head coach); Bobby Beathard (executive); Nick Buoniconti (LB); Larry Csonka (FB); Bob Griese (QB); Jim Langer <span style="font-size: 10pt;">(C ); Larry Little (G ); Paul Warfield (WR). Hall of Famers for Washington: George Allen (head coach): Chris Hanburger (LB); Sonny Jurgensen (QB); Charley Taylor (WR). The Dolphin touchdowns were scored by Howard Twilley, on a 28-yard pass reception from quarterback Bob Griese, and by halfback Jim Kiick on a one-yard run. Mike Bass had a 49-yard fumble return for the Redskins' lone touchdown. The 8.5x10.9" program has 168 pages, and it is crammed with stories, statistics, photos, etc. 2) The 1968 AFL Championship Game program for Dec. 29, 1968, played at Shea Stadium in New York City in front of 62,162 spectators. This game paired the New York Jets and the Oakland Raiders. The Jets' Joe Namath threw three touchdown passes, the last a 6-yard pass to Don Maynard to give the Jets, with the extra point, a 27-23 lead and ultimately the game. The program measures 8.5x11" and has 168 pages, with many photos, statistics, stories, etc. Hall of Famers for the Jets were: Weeb Ewbank (head coach); Winston Hill, Don Maynard, and Joe Namath. Hall of Famers for the Raiders: Al Davis (owner/general manager), Fred Biletnikoff, George Blanda, Willie Brown, Jim Otto, Art Shell, Ken Stabler, and Gene Upshaw. Each of the programs is in very good condition, and they provide a wonderful trip back in time to NFL and AFL Championship Games of over a half century ago.</span></p>
