1968 Maury Wills Original Artwork by Willard Mullin (16x20")

1968 Maury Wills Original Artwork by Willard Mullin (16x20")

A commentary on the quickness and base-stealing prowess of Maury Wills, Willard Mullin created this cartoon in 1968. Maury Wills stands with disheveled look in Pittsburgh Pirates uniform and no shoes, while NL President Warren “Jupiter” Giles dangles his talaria (winged sandals) over the head of Wills. Caption reads, “The Amazing Mets, everybody’s love, open at Shea today with the Pirates, everybody’s favorite even with their new Mercurial 3rd baseman shorn of his Talaria.” Wills complains, “Zeus or Jupiter or whatever his name is swiped by winged sandals!” Artwork is Excellent.
