1969-72 ABA Basketball with Original Box
The rarest of ABA balls, this one shows Jack Dolph as commissioner and is unused, in EX-MT+ condition. It comes with the original Rawlings box, which is a bit tattered but has "BASKETBALL RSS ABA" stamped on it. The American Basketball Association was formed in 1967 as a rival to the NBA and lasted until the two leagues merged in 1976. The ABA was distinguished by its red, white and blue color-schemed ball, as well as a more high-paced, flashy style of play and rules variations. The ABA pioneered the 3-point line and the slam dunk contest. Dolph was the third of an unusually high number of seven commissioners, though no one held the post longer than he did (1969-72).
