1969 Eskimo Pie AFL Football Cards (Lot of 5, with Griese)
Extremely rare group of FIVE cards from the 1969 Eskimo Pie set of AFL stars. Obviously issued just before the NFL-AFL merger was announced, this football card set concentrated on the junior league AFL, and these were distributed on boxes of Eskimo Pies. Similar to the Post Cereal cards issued on boxes, these Eskimo Pie cards were issued on 16 two-card panels with players separated by a dotted line, with a small ad below. Although the ad states there were 32 cards, only 15 actual panels have surfaced, and the set is assumed to be complete at 15 panels with several considered Single-Printed panels. Includes: #3 Briscoe/Shaw (SP), #6 Davidson/Griese, #8 Garrett/Hunt (SP), #13 Norton/Costa and #15 Snell/Post. Condition varies, but each card is squarely cut as some have been found with rounded cut corners. Three cards above (#3, 8 and 13) have the original price ("65c") stamped on the card while a fourth (#15) is extremely light. Interestingly, the most desirable card in the set for star power is the nicest conditioned card in the lot. The 1969 Eskimo Pie cards are among the most rare of all football cards and are in high demand, with this lot representing one-third of the entire 15-card set.
