1969 Jim Bunning/Johnny Jeter Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

1969 Jim Bunning/Johnny Jeter Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

<p>Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey dating from the 1969 season. The white flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "14" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. Located on the left front tail are a "Rawlings size 44" label, a wash tag, and an adjacent flag tag reading "Set 1 19169." The jersey is all original and displays heavy wear, including moderate staining on both the front and reverse. Number 14 was worn by both Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Bunning and rookie outfielder Johnny Jeter in 1969. Bunning had compiled a record of 10-9, with a 3.81 ERA, before being traded to the Dodgers on August 15th. Jeter appeared in 28 games during the second half of the year. Since both players were of similar height and weight, its likely that Jeter was simply given Bunning's jerseys to wear, as opposed to issuing him new jerseys, or a different jersey with a number change. Bunning played only a season and a half with Pittsburgh (1968-1969), making this a scarce Bunning flannel from his brief time with the Pirates.</p>
