1969 New York Mets Flag That Flew Over Shea Stadium During the World Series

1969 New York Mets Flag That Flew Over Shea Stadium During the World Series

This New York Mets flag is the actual flag that hung at the original Shea Stadium during the 1969 World Series when the Mets battled the Baltimore Orioles and beat them in a whopping four out of five games. The Orioles took the lead in the first game, but by the end of game five the Mets had secured their victory, with the first winning record in Mets history. Tom Seaver was the star pitcher, who, at the time had just broke into the Major Leagues in 1967. Seaver was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992 by the highest percentage ever (98.8%). This blue flag with faded orange letters has a small hole on the top left, stands 5' tall, and is 7'7" long. Both Tom Seaver and Yogi Berra have signed this inside the letter "E" in "New." Our consignor acquired this flag from the retired president of a bank that was advertising for new business and wanted to attract more customers. He called an official at Shea and they sent him this flag. Consignor also tells us that there are some pictures of the flag in front of the bank in the New York Daily Newspaper from 1970. LOA.
