1969 Topps Boston Red Sox & Chicago Cubs Team Posters Original Art - from 1989 Topps Auction
One-of-a-kind original art for this most desired set of rare Topps baseball team posters. This artwork is for two of the better posters in the set: Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs. Each features eleven of the top players. The mighty Red Sox includes Yaz, Conigliaro, Scott, Harrelson, Smith and more. The Chicago Cubs (famed for their collapse in the face of the 1969 Amazin' Mets) includes Banks, Santo, Williams, Jenkins, etc. There are actually two pieces in this lot: 1) Mock-up on acetate used to print the posters themselves. Real artwork of the flags with the team name are combined with the pasted-on signatures and printed names of the players, as well as real photos of the players. Original cardboard mounting on back 25x22". 2) The second piece is a color guide for the backgrounds of the posters. They are colored pencils and acrylic paint on heavy onion skin paper. Measures about 26x23". Both have handwritten notes & signature from Topps artists, as well as Topps Gum of "Brooklyn" stampings on back cementing both their authenticity and provenance. Interestingly, the stamps date pre-1969 as they were still using the old stamp.
