1970's Joe Namath & N.Y. Jets Original Artworks (including Riggins) by Bruce Stark
Two great original pen and inks, by Bruce Stark: 1) New York running backs John Riggins and Ron Johnson, and 2) Joe Namath and two other Jets' quarterbacks (Richard Todd and Matt Robinson). Stark was an award-winning N.Y. Daily News cartoonist and caricaturist who won two Reuben Awards from the New York Cartoon Society as outstanding cartoonist of the year. Stark is most renowned for his heart-breaking drawing (deliberately half-completed) of Roberto Clemente after the Pirates star was killed in a plane crash. Stark's Clemente work, entitled "Unfinished Business", garnered international praise. Stark's running back cartoon, circa 1972, titled "Back To Back", features great drawings of Jets Riggins and Giants Johnson, both running with the ball. A small drawing of another running back, O.J. Simpson, is at the apex of the drawing. The Namath drawing, circa 1978, is titled "Me And My Shadow". Outstanding action drawing of Namath, coiled and ready to throw. In Namath's "shadow" on the drawing is Richard Todd, fellow Alabama alum who was brought in to back-up Namath., and eventually, after Namath's release, became the starter. In Todd's "shadow" is Matt Robinson, the number two quarterback to starter Todd who, as Todd was injured, was escaping from Todd's shadow. Beautiful art that tells the classic quarterback story of reign and succession. Both drawings are signed by Stark and both are framed to 14x16".
Size: E.S.
