1970-71 Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates Game Used Bat (MEARS A8)

1970-71 Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates Game Used Bat (MEARS A8)

Roberto Clemente Adirondack pro-model ("194RW") bat dating from the 1971-1972 manufacturing period. Graded A8 by MEARS. The bat, which is not cracked, measures 36" in length and weighs 35 ounces. Heavy use is displayed throughout, including numerous ball marks, cleat marks, and light application of pine tar on the handle. Most important, Clemente's uniform number ("21") is written on the knob in faded black marker. This bat dates from the last two years of Clemente's career, including the club's 1971 World Championship season. Though a seventeen-year veteran, Clemente was still at the top of his game heading into his third decade of Major League ball, batting .341 and .312, respectively, in 1971 and 1972. Included among Clemente's many lifetime achievements are four National League batting titles, one MVP Award, twelve Gold Glove Awards, twelve All-Star Game appearances, and two World Championships. After his tragic death in a plane crash on New Years eve, 1972, the Baseball Hall of Fame waived its fiver-year waiting period and inducted Clemente to the Hall by special election in 1973. This is an outstanding high-grade Clemente bat, most notable for having been used by him during his last two seasons in the game. Full LOA from MEARS (graded A8).
