1970 Brooks Robinson Baltimore Orioles Game Worn Cleats
Exceptional look to these game worn spikes used by Baltimore Orioles third baseman extraordinaire Brooks Robinson. Black Riddell spikes are nicely polished but also show extensive use, likely worn throughout most of the 1970 season and possibly preseason. Robinson's retired number 5 is written inside the tongue of each in thick black marker, use is evident on the leather as well as the bottom, with the metal spikes showing rust and some clay residue noticed. These originate from the collection of Louis Kendrick, who acquired all of his items from the players and the teams directly; included typewritten card from the Kendrick collection reads, "1970 - Brooks Robinson - These spikes were worned (sic) by my friend 3rd baseman Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles baseball club." The powerhouse 1970 Orioles reeled off 108 regular season victories before sweeping the Minnesota Twins for the AL Pennant, and topping the New York Yankees in a 5-game World Series. Brooks batted a solid .276 for the season with 18 homers and 94 RBI, but his defense at the hot corner remained the key, as he won the 11th of his astounding, record-setting string of 16 consecutive Gold Glove awards. Great keepsake from the recently departed Baltimore icon.
