1970 Pittsburgh Pirates Last Series at Forbes Field Full Tickets w/Final Game (3)
Offered are three full tickets to the Pittsburgh Pirates' last home series at Forbes Field, including the final baseball game at the long-term home of the Pirates, just before the Pirates moved to Three Rivers Stadium. Forbes Field (1909-June 28, 1970) was the third home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the first home of the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers. It was also the home field of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team from 1909-1924. Forbes Field hosted three World Series, including the famous 1960 World Series when Pittsburgh triumphed over the New York Yankees on Bill Mazeroski's 9th inning walkoff home run. The first ticket is for the June 26, 1970 game, which was rained out, and we believe rescheduled as part of a double-header on June 28th. The next ticket is for the June 27th game. In this game, the Pirates Dock Ellis went the distance to beat the visiting Chicago Cubs 2-1. The originally scheduled June 26th game was made up as the first game of a double-header on June 28th. The Pirates won again, by 3-2, as Bill Hands got the Chicago loss, and Dave Guisti picked up the win in relief for the Pirates. The Pirates closed out Forbes Field in style when they swept the series by also winning the second game of the double-header, by 4-1. Starter Jim Nelson got the Pirates' win and Cubs; starter Milt Pappas had the loss. Al Oliver had the final home run ever hit at Forbes Field as he hit a solo shot in the first inning. Fittingly, Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski had the final putout at Forbes Field as he grabbed a grounder by the Cubs Don Kessinger and stepped on second base for the force out to end the game. After the final game, Pirates' Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente was emotional about the Pirates' stadium move, saying, "I spent half of my life there." The full ticket to this last game at Forbes Field, held before a sentimental crowd of 40,918 fans, is encapsulated and certified SGC AUTHENTIC.
