1970s Riverfront Stadium & Coliseum Street Sign - Big Red Machine Era
One of several of its type built in the early 1970s, Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium played host to the vaunted Big Red Machine that ran roughshod over the National League for a decade. This dominant all-metal sign measures 26x54" and originates from the early days of the complex that included the Riverfront, baseball stadium, and Coliseum, and this sign bears images directing patrons to all. It has fasteners on the back for connecting to metal street poles, and bears some scuffs and scrapes that only accents the display value. In addition to Riverfront Stadium playing host to the likes of Bench, Rose, Perez, and more, the Coliseum was the infamous site of a concert by The Who on December 3, 1979, in which 11 concertgoers died during a mad rush while trying to enter the venue. A great reminder of a jewel of the Queen City.
