1971 Fergie Jenkins Game Worn Cy Young Award Year Jersey
Canada has never been known as an importer of baseball talent, but then Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins never really did things in a customary fashion. Throughout his 19-year career the 6'5" right-hander never received the fame his accomplishments warranted, having always found himself on teams known more for hitting than pitching but one glance at his numbers and it becomes abundantly clear....... his talents were extraordinary. Along with being near the top of the all-time strikeout list with 3,192, he amassed 284 victories, six consecutive 20-win seasons paired with 200-plus strikeouts, and pitched more than 300 innings on five separate occasions. No season was greater, though, than that of 1971 when he led the NL with a 24-13 record, 263 strikeouts, a 2.77 ERA, and 30 complete games to runaway with the Cy Young award. From that very season we offer his very rare grey flannel "road" jersey. In rich blue tackle twill "Chicago" and "31" fills the front while his number "31" completes the verso. Sewn on the left sleeve is the original "Cubby" patch on the left sleeve and the chain-stitched flannel label in the collar reads, "31-71-1-44". On the front tail is tagging from Wilson [size] "44" which rests above "1971" (Chain-stitched in blue thread). Overall the jersey exhibits fine use but has remained in sensational display condition. 100% original right down to the buttons. Finished off with his vintage signed autograph above the front right hem. A true "10"!
