1972 Don Maynard New York Jets Game Worn Jersey (Maynard Letter)

1972 Don Maynard New York Jets Game Worn Jersey (Maynard Letter)

We rate this jersey a perfect "10." Wide receiver Don Maynard's freewheeling style was a perfect compliment to a brash newcomer named Joe Namath in 1965, and the combination was crucial in leading the New York Jets to a stunning victory in Super Bowl III. This rare and terrific white jersey originally came from Maynard and comes with a copy of an entertaining signed Letter of Authenticity from the Jets great. It is all-original and signed on the front, "Don Maynard Record Breaker 632 Rec," there are four team repairs and custom-shortened sleeves, and all lettering and numbers are screened in green on the mesh top. Worn during his record breaking pass reception season in 1972, Maynard alludes to this in his LOA, noting that "Joe" (no last name mentioned, or needed) "threw for over 400 yards that night, 131 to ol' #13." Although Maynard implies in the letter that he wore this jersey during the game in which he broke the record, we can not match it to that exact game. Also includes JSA LOA for the autograph. Maynard played for 13 seasons with the Titans/Jets, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
