1972 Jackie Robinson Funeral Photographs in Original Envelope from Sal LaRocca Collection (9)
Sad mementos of a legend taken too soon, these nine photographs are from the funeral of Jackie Robinson, who passed away in 1972 at the young age of 53. In their original Daily News envelope, these poignant Type I 8x10" images all have original captions taped on back, and include the likes of Jesse Jackson, Nelson Rockefeller, hoops star Bill Russell, and baseball peers Buck Leonard, Monte Irvin, Elston Howard, Larry Doby, Ralph Branca, Don Newcombe, and more. Robinson passed just nine days after the 1972 World Series ended, and about 2,500 people attended his funeral.
