1972 New York Mets Signed Spring Training Program w/Gil Hodges - One of the Last Items Signed by Hodges (JSA)
1972 spring training program signed in either blue or black ink by fifteen members of the New York Mets, including manager Gil Hodges. What makes this program significant is that it dates just a few days before his tragic death and is therefore one of the last items he ever signed. The program is a joint Atlanta Braves/Montreal Expos program, because both clubs trained at Municipal Stadium in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was in West Palm Beach, on Easter Sunday, April 2, 1972, that Hodges collapsed after suffering a major heart attack. He died just hours later. Included among the fifteen signatures on the program are those of Hodges, Seaver, Berra (coach), Koosman, Jones, Singleton, Harrelson, McAndrew, Capra, Sadecki, Garrett, Gentry, and Marshall. The signatures are all fairly uniform in grade and average 8/10. The twenty-page program (8.5x11") is not scored and displays light scattered staining. In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from JSA.
