1972 Oakland Athletics Team Presentation "TEAM" Trophy (Huge 23" Tall) - Presented to Matty Alou

1972 Oakland Athletics Team Presentation "TEAM" Trophy (Huge 23" Tall) - Presented to Matty Alou

The dawn of a dynasty. This World Series trophy represented the first of three straight captured by the Oakland A's in 1972, and its height of 23" ensures this is one of the select few that was presented to the winning teams, and, for a short time, any of their players who requested them. This one was the property of outfielder Matty Alou, who joined the ballclub late in the season after starting the year with the St. Louis Cardinals. Not to be confused with the 12” tall shorter version, this huge, stately gold and silver plated team trophy stands 24” tall and 13” in diameter. The familiar 24 team flags design is punctuated by the ball-and-crown in the center with Athletics & Cincinnati Reds pins with game scores on a green metal plate in front. The gold band base reads “Oakland A’s 1972 World Champions” with a full roster of names engraved all the way around. That list includes: Jackson, Hunter, Finley, Fingers, Alou, Rudi, Blue and Bando. One of a very few large trophies ever made, in EX-MT+ condition. The trophy comes directly from Alou, who batted .307 overall in 1972 and .281 over the last 32 games with Oakland.
