1972 Robert Clemente Puerto Rican Rawlings Gold Glove Award
Translated from Spanish to English, this is the "XI" Gold Glove awarded to Roberto Clemente 1-29-72. We believe this was presented to Roberto Clemente for having won 11 of his record 12 (tied with Mays) Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. The Puerto Rico winter baseball season had just ended, but it was before the start of the Caribbean Series, exactly around this time that awards and players were honored. Not given by Rawlings, but locally in Puerto Rico (based on the simple nature of the award). He could easily have left it behind or not shown up which was a common occurrence in 1972. The former is the likely situation. Recently discovered in an old time collection, it is 100% authentic and vintage from that time period-not a fantasy piece someone made up. Some scratches are visible on the nameplate, otherwise EX condition.
