1972 Roberto Clemente All-Star Game Issued Bat (ex-Christie's)

Professional model bats branded with the special All-Star Game barrel brand were introduced in 1949. These bats were issued to the National and American League All-Stars; position players were issued two bats and pitchers one. The models for the bats were determined by the last model ordered by the player just prior to the production date of the All-Star Game bats.Hillerich & Bradsby model U1 Roberto Clemente professional model bat is uncracked and game ready. General scuffing can be seen on the barrel. The model number (U1) is stamped into the knob and Clemente's number (21) is written on the knob in black marker.Roberto Clemente was a reserve on the 1972 National League All-Star Team and did not play in the game. From a 1993 Christie's Auction and their description states: "Bat was given to Les Banos, Pittsburgh Pirates team photographer, after the All-Star Game."
