What better way of saying Roberto Clemente was a “money in the bank” player than this check signed by the tragic legend and made out in his hand to “Cash”. Check for $400 drawn on Mellon National Bank and Trust Company in Pittsburgh is dated Sept. 25, 1972 -- just 5 days before he collected his 3,000th hit and, sadly, three months and 6 days before he was killed when his plane went down while on a mercy mission for Nicaragua earthquake victims.
