1973 Felipe Alou New York Yankees Signed Game Worn Jersey (Photo-Matched)
New York Yankees home jersey worn by first baseman Felipe Alou in 1972. Lelands has found an image of Alou wearing this jersey in 1972 and the photo match can be accessed at Getty Images under the following number: 53509135.The white knit pinstripe jersey features the Yankees' "NY" logo on the left breast and the number "24" on the reverse. Both the logo and number have been applied in navy tackle twill. "F. Alou" is chain-stitched in navy upon a white strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson 42" label and a white strip tag that has "73 Set 1" chain-stitched in navy. Alou has signed the jersey in black marker (grading 6/10) on the left breast, directly above the team logo. This jersey was most likely sent down for use in the minors after the season because the "NY" logo has been restored and the Yankees "50th Anniversary" patch on the left sleeve has been removed. Aside from those two minor anomalies, the jersey is original as issued and displays heavy wear, including a few light stains in the collar and on the front. Felipe Alou was one of three Alou brothers to play in the Major Leagues, and is the father of Moises Alou, who enjoyed a stellar Major League career beginning in 1992. The 1972 season was Alou's first with the Yankees, and he finished the year with 6 home runs, 37 RBI, and a .278 average. He retired in 1974 after seventeen seasons, finishing his career with 206 home runs, 852 RBI, and a .286 lifetime average.
