Savor the power of the punch of Joe Louis and the prowess of artist Bob Peak in this print of the second Joe Louis - Max Schmeling fight. The fight was at Yankee Stadium on June 23, 1938, and it represented even more than Heavyweight Louis defending his World Title against Schmeling, the only man to ever defeat him at that point. It also represented the American Louis against the German Schmeling, who although not a Nazi and later a friend of Louis, still stood in the minds of many for the ascending power of Adolf Hitler. Louis knocked out Schmeling in the first round, and Peak's illustration mixes Norman Rockwell with a unique surrealism. Both Louis and Schmeling boldly signed the print in 1973. Beautifully matted and framed at 24.5x30.5".
