1975 Thurman Munson Endorsed New York Yankees Payroll Check

1975 Thurman Munson Endorsed New York Yankees Payroll Check

Thirty-two years after his tragic death, Thurman Munson remains a beloved figure, especially in his adopted hometown of New York, where he led the Yankees to back-to-back World Series titles his last two full seasons of 1977 and '78. Here's one of his personalized items: a 1975 Chemical Bank check with typical cancellation marks. It is signed on the back, "Thurman L. Munson" in 9/10 black ink and the amount is for $5,860.38. Munson's salary for the 1975 season is listed as "undetermined," but the following season, he made $120,000. The MVP-caliber catcher batted a career-best .318 during the 1975 campaign and drove in 102 runs, three shy of his personal best. The check is encapsulated by PSA as Authentic.
