1976 Brooks Robinson Baltimore Orioles Game Worn Hat
"Fifty years from now I'll be just three inches of type in a record book," said Brooks Robinson in 1963, and 60 years after the aforementioned quote, Brooks Robinson passed away, on Sept. 26, 2023. Yet, speaking in baseball terms, the amazing Hall of Fame third baseman remains much more than three inches of type in a record book. No mere record book could portray his acrobatic ability at the hot corner. Robinson played his entire Major League career (1955-1977) with the Baltimore Orioles. Robinson first became a real star in 1960 when he hit .294, with 14 home runs and 88 RBIs and made the AL All-Star Team, winning his first Gold Glove. In an astounding display of consistency, Robinson continued to win Gold Gloves every season for the next 14 years, and also was an AL All-Star for the next 14 seasons as well. Brooks was the 1964 AL MVP when he batted .317 with 28 home runs, and led the AL in RBIs, with 118. Robinson was a key member of two Orioles World Champions. His fame reached tremendous levels in the 1970 World Series as Baltimore faced the Cincinnati Reds. Robinson made miraculous play after miraculous play at third base, highlighted by an incredible diving catch of a Johnny Bench foul line drive in the 6th inning of Game 3. The Orioles won the World Series in five games. The Reds' Pete Rose said of Robinson, "He belongs in a higher league." In that same World Series, Robinson earned the nicknames "Hoover" and "The Human Vacuum Cleaner" for his fielding, as he cleaned up grounder after grounder. In that same World Series, Brooks batted .429, with two homers and six RBIs, and he won the Series MVP. This cap originates from the collection of Louis Kendrick, who received items directly from the players and teams, and-he was friends with Brooks Robinson. The rare style cap is mostly black, with the two front segments orange, with the Oriole logo on front. It has "5" in black marker, written by an unknown source, under the brim. An AJD manufacturer's tag is sewn in the band, no there is size tag, but by estimation it is a 7 1/4. The cap is 100% Nylon double knit. The liner in the brim is broken at two spots. The cap shows fine use.
