1976 Tommy Helms Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

1976 Tommy Helms Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

<p>Tommy Helms could really pick it. The second baseman won Gold Gloves with the Cincinnati Reds in 1970 and 1971. "Who would you want at second base with the game on the line?" asked former Cincinnati Reds reliever Clay Carroll. Then Carroll answered his own question. "Two words. Tommy Helms." Helms was the NL Rookie of the Year in 1966, and he led the National League in double plays by a second baseman in 1970 and 1971, in fielding percentage in 1970, 1971 and 1974, and in assists in 1972. Helms started all five games for the Reds in the 1970 World Series when Cincinnati lost the Series to the Baltimore Orioles. Presented is a 1976 Tommy Helms jersey from the 1976 season when Helms was with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The white home jersey has black and gold (mustard) trim. The jersey sports the Baseball Centennial Patch on the sleeve. A tag inside the front right tail reads "Rawlings" for manufacturer and "40" for size. Tags adjacent to the Rawlings tag read "1976" for year and "Set 1". On the jersey front is "Pirates" in block, single black letters. "15" is in black both on the left breast and on the back. Some reinforced sewing has been done on the "15" on the back, and the top half inch of the "5" on the back is missing some of the top of the mustard collared border. The "15" as a whole shows great wear, with abrasions and scuff marks, A small stain is near the top of the right shoulder and a small stain on the left of the collar area. It remains an attractive jersey from baseball's Bicentennial.</p>
