1977 George Foster Record Setting 50th Homerun Baseball

1977 George Foster Record Setting 50th Homerun Baseball

Prior to 1977, no Cincinnati Red hit more than 40 home runs in a single season. That all changed during George Foster's historic 1977 MVP season in which he shattered the Reds single season home run record by smashing an astounding 52 dingers; a record that still stands to this day. Offered here is an incredibly rare piece of that historic season; the actual 50th home run baseball hit by George Foster. On September 23rd, 1977, Foster hit this official National League (Feeney) baseball for that historic home run off Buzz Capra in a 5-1 victory against the Atlanta Braves. Foster then wrote, "Sept. 23 1977, 50th, Capra, Atlanta, 5-1" on the ball in his own hand with a blue marker. This ball was purchased directly from Foster in 2006 and included is a signed Letter of Authenticity from the Reds' legend stating the significance of the record and his handwriting on the side panel.
