1977 Muhammed Ali vs. Ernie Shavers Full Ticket PSA NM 7 (Pop 1 of 1 Highest Graded)
Presented is a very scarce full ticket to Muhammad Ali's last successful Heavyweight Championship defense. Ali was now 35 years old, and both his punching speed and his foot speed had slowed. The fight was the tenth defense of Ali's second reign as the World Heavyweight Champion. Ali won Round 1, but he was hurt as Shavers took Round 2. Shavers was known as a devastating hitter, one of the hardest heavyweight punchers ever. Yet, he was known to lack stamina. According to writer Pat Putnam, of Sports Illustrated, "Ali conned (Shavers) out of going for the kill." Apparently, Shavers thought Ali was hurt worse than he was, and not wanting to risk an all-out attack and lose the stamina to go the distance, Shavers held back. The fight was still close going into Round 15. Then according to Putnam, Ali "...came out in the last round and fought three minutes as good as any three minutes I've ever seen." Ali won a unanimous decision. It was his last great fight. Ali was past his peak, but boxing aficionados regard Ali's strategy and will power combining into a brilliant summoning of mental and physical strength for a brilliant last hurrah. The offered ticket has been encapsulated and graded PSA NM 7.
