1977 Sugar Bowl Full Ticket Signed By Johnny Majors and MVP Matt Cavanagh PSA Authentic
Offered is a full ticket to the 1977 Sugar Bowl, signed by the University of Pittsburgh head coach Johnny Majors and the game's MVP, Panther quarterback Matt Cavanaugh, when the Pittsburgh Panthers clinched the National Championship by defeating Georgia 27-3. When the Number 1 ranked Pittsburgh Panthers played the Number 5 ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Jan. 1, 1977, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, Georgia was determined to stop the running of Pittsburgh's Heisman winning running back, Tony Dorsett. So, Georgia used a 6-2 defense designed to stop Dorsett, a defense that left the Pittsburgh receivers going against single coverage. "They put eight players up there to stop the run," Cavanaugh said. "And that meant single coverage on our receivers. All you have to do is get them the ball." Cavanaugh did just that, completing 10 of 18 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown, and also scoring himself on a 6-yard run. Despite the 6-2 defense, Dorsett still couldn't be kept in check. He scored a touchdown on an 11-yard run and carried 32 times for 202 yards. He ended his career with a then NCAA record of 6,082 regular season yards rushing. The 2.25x5.75" ticket has been signed and inscribed by Cavanaugh in blue ink from a marker as "Matt Cavanaugh /Sugar Bowl MVP" and signed by Johnny Majors, also in blue ink from a marker. The $12.00 ticket has a photo of the Superdome. The full ticket is PSA/DNA certified as "AUTHENTIC."
