1977 Willie Stargell Pittsburgh Pirates Signed Game Worn Jersey (MEARS A9.5)

1977 Willie Stargell Pittsburgh Pirates Signed Game Worn Jersey (MEARS A9.5)

Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by Hall of Fame slugger Willie Stargell in 1977. Graded A9.5 by MEARS. The knit pinstripe jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "8" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Descente" label, an adjacent wash tag, and a white strip tag featuring the uniform number, size, and year ("8 46 77") embroidered in black. Stargell has signed the jersey in black marker (grading 7/10) on the right breast. The jersey displays a player-customized tail, the design of which is analogous to a crotch strap in a football jersey. Both the front and rear tails are tapered, with three strips of velcro affixed to the front for securing it. Aside from that, there are no other alterations and the jersey is original as issued. Heavy wear is displayed, including a few light, scattered stains and a tiny hole on the reverse.Stargell was hampered by injury in 1977, which limited him to just sixty-three games. The highlight of the season was his 400th career home run, which occurred on June 29th in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis. "Pops" finished the 1977 season with 13 home runs, 35 RBI, and a .274 batting average. One of the greatest sluggers of his era, Stargell retired in 1982 with 475 home runs, 1,540 RBI, and a .282 lifetime average. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1988. Full LOA from MEARS (graded A9.5).
