1978-79 Earl Monroe New York Knicks Game Worn Jersey
Already highlighted by the flashy play of Walt "Clyde" Frazier, the New York Knicks added even more flair to their backcourt tandem with the 1971 acquisition of Earl "the Pearl" Monroe. What became known as the "Rolls Royce Backcourt" led the Knicks to their second NBA title in 1973. This Sand-knit home white mesh jersey was game-worn by Monroe, and bears manufacturer's size 44 tail tag directly below a tag reading "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for NY Knicks." Cosby distributor's tag is inside the collar, with NEW YORK stitched across the front in orange-and-blue tackle twill letters and number 15 on front and back. "MONROE" is stitched above the number on back, with each arched-style letter sewn individually. The jersey dates from the 1979-80 season, The Pearl's last in the NBA, after which he earned Hall of Fame honors, and his retired number hangs from the rafters at Madison Square Garden.
