1978 Carl Yastrzemski Boston Red Sox Game Worn Jersey (MEARS A8)

Carl Yastrzemski is a Boston institution. The Hall of Famer patrolled the greensward in front of the Green Monster in left field and won seven Gold Gloves. As a hitter, he hit .285 lifetime and blasted 452 home runs in his major league career - 23 years, all with the Boston Red Sox. In 1967, there were two monsters in left field - the green one and Yaz. What a season! Carl hit .326, had 121 RBIs, and hit 44 home runs. He won the Triple Crown and became the AL MVP as he led Boston to the pennant. In looking back over his career, Carl said, "I'm very proud and very pleased of my accomplishments, but I am most proud of that [four hundred home runs and three thousand base hits]. Not [Ted] Williams, not [Lou] Gehrig, not [Joe] DiMaggio did that. They were Cadillacs, and I'm a Chevrolet." But what a Chevrolet! Currently, Carl's legacy continues. Over half a century from Carl's MVP season, Carl's grandson, Mike Yastrzemski, is an outfielder with the San Francisco Giants. This regular season jersey has light, but definite, use. MEARS has graded the jersey A8, with two points having been deducted for the light use. This all-original knit pullover is a home white jersey. On front the is sewn "Red Sox" in double tackle twill. On the back is a red (8) in double tackle twill. A collar tag reads "42" for size. A McAuliffe manufacturer tag is also in the collar. A tag on the outside front tail shows the year, "1978". LOA from MEARS (Graded A8).
