1978 Ozzie Smith Game Used Rookie Bat (PSA 8)
Known as the Wizard of Ozz for his spectacular fielding skills, Ozzie Smith was no slouch at the plate, and this offering is the only available Ozzie Smith rookie bat that we know of. The signature model Hillerich & Bradsby S515 has a vintage "1" in marker on the knob, and also on the knob in light pencil is "29" for the weight in ounces, as at 34" and 28.5 ounces, it matches factory records. It shows moderate use with some ball marks on the barrel, bat rack marks, and very light pine tar on the handle, as well as a slight handle crack. In his rookie season with San Diego, Smith batted .258 and stole 40 bases, finishing second in Rookie of the Year balloting to slugger Bob Horner.This very rare rookie bat comes with PSA LOA and is graded 8, also signed by Ozzie on the barrel in 8/10 black Sharpie.
