1978 Penn State Beaver Stadium Architectural Model Dedicated to Joe Paterno
One of the finest stadium pieces we have ever offered. This is the only actual stadium architectural model we have ever seen other than a far inferior smaller version of the same. Let alone this is from Penn State's football home. Due to the one-of-a-kind nature and their institutional use makes these a true scarcity. Meticulous in detail, this one-of-a-kind, handcrafted prototype from the original architectural firm measures 52.5" wide, 51.5" long and 12.5" tall. The impossible find was undoubtedly made possible by the tragic scandal that rocked Happy Valley four years ago, and the university's marketing department sought to sell it off getting rid of it along with the program seemingly itself. The gold plaque displayed prominently on the original Lucite case reads: "DEDICATED TO COACH JOE PATERNO, BUILT BY J.F. BRANTON, NOVEMBER 14, 1981." That itself is a key to the fact that this is even available here. A similarly tragic fate was met by the famed coach's bronze statue, which was shortsightedly destroyed. Currently that statue is being rebuilt, and thankfully this piece was saved. Incredibly detailed model was created in 1978 to demonstrate the expansion of the stadium to a capacity of 76,640 (it has since expanded again to its current 106,572). The model is in exceptional condition minus a small crack in the original Lucite case. We have been looking for a stadium architectural model for years and finally we have found it. The historical nature of this piece cannot be underscored enough, not only as a sports piece but one that transcends as well.
