1978 Rich "Goose" Gossage World Champion New York Yankees Game Worn Jersey - Photomatched to Iconic Photo with Munson
One of the most dominant and durable relievers in baseball history, Rich "Goose" Gossage pitched 22 years in the majors, intimidating all who stepped into the batter's box with his prominent facial hair and imposing demeanor on the mound. During the height of his career, Gossage pitched for the Yankees, and this pinstriped jersey shows great use. Beautifully photomatched to the iconic image of Gossage and Thurman Munson celebrating a Yankee win. There's the familiar interlocking "NY" on the front and "54" on the back, both of which are all original. The jersey displays such great use that some of the anchor stitching is coming loose. "Gossage 78 2" is sewn on the strip tag in the collar, and there's a Wilson Size 46 on the front tail. There is also some wear to the lining in the collar area including some small tears. The original black armband has been removed from the left sleeve, as is evidenced by the stitch pattern outline. This would indicate that the jersey was also used in 1979 and had the band in honor of Thurman Munson. The jersey was signed in 8/10 blue Sharpie on the front: "Goose Gossage 78 World Series."
